Place: Every participant connects to online live lectures from their homes.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course will start with a discussion of Person and work of the Holy Spirit in Scripture and in the history of the church. After that the doctrine of salvation as the application of the work of Christ by the Spirit will be discussed: calling; regeneration; faith, conversion and repentance; justification; sanctification; perseverance and assurance. Special attention will be given to the relation between justification and sanctification: an important topic in Reformed theology.

ABOUT PROFESSOR

Dr. Barend Kamphuis is professor emeritus in Systematic Theology at the Theological University of the Reformed Churches (liberated) in Kampen, the Netherlands. He is married with Zwanet and has with her 6 children and 12 grandchildren. He loves playing chess and watching birds.

    2. Bavinck, Reformed Dogmatics 4, Grand Rapids Mi.: Baker Academic, 2008, p. 29-270
    3. I. Packer, Knowing God, Chapter 19 ‘Sons of God’ 
  • Final written exam.
  • Paper about one of the themes of the course, with an independent analysis of it, about 5000 words

For lay students:

  • Participation in all online class sessions.
  • Readings (~50 pages)
    1. Calvin, Institutes, 3,3,1-5 and 3,11,1-4
    2. I. Packer, Knowing God, Chapter 19 ‘Sons of God’ 
  • Final written exam.
