COURSE DESCRIPTION

Principles of Christ Centered Preaching. This class focuses on expository preaching, which is defined here as “hearing and applying the message of a particular text, in the context of a book, in the context of the whole story of scripture. This means that listening carefully to the message that was intended by the original, Holy-Spirit inspired author. Attention will be given to recognizing the grammatical, literary, and historical context of a passage. Moreover, this course will show how each sermon must find a legitimate path to the person and work of Jesus Christ.

INSTRUCTOR

Rev. Dr. Walt Nilsson loves Jesus and helping people know and live in the grace of God. He is lead pastor of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (PCA) in California, Maryland, where he has served for over 18 years. He earned his MDiv from Covenant Theological Seminary and his PhD in preaching from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has taught internationally in The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Philippines, and Guatemala. 

Walt and his wife Holly have been married for over 23 years and have four children (two daughters and two sons).

Course Requirements for students

  1. Attendance at all class sessions, unless there is a valid reason for absence (10% of the grade)
